Budget 2023 was announced on 27 September 2022. The Budget sets out an overall package of €11 billion but how much of this will trickle down to parents of children with special needs?

October 2022 will see parents on a weekly social welfare payment getting a once-off payment of an extra week also called a ‘double week’ (minimum payment €20).

In November 2022 parents will receive a double Child Benefit payment plus a once-off payment of €500 to Carers who qualify for the non-means tested Carer’s Support Grant. Those families in receipt of the means-tested Fuel Allowance will receive a €400 payment too.
Finally, in November, there will also be a once-off payment of €500 for our children on Disability Allowance.

In January 2023, Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit and Disability Allowance will increase by €12 with proportional increases for qualified adults and people on reduced rates of payment. Domiciliary Care Allowance will be €330 per month which is a €20.50 increase. Parents in receipt of the Home Carer Tax Credit will see a €100 increase.

There are no changes to the rate of payment in 2023 for the Carer’s Support Grant or Child Benefit.
