What is the Social Welfare Christmas Bonus?
The Christmas Bonus or Christmas Payment is an extra payment for people getting a long-term social welfare payment such as Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, Disability Allowance and Domiciliary Care Allowance. Your payment will come in automatically with your qualifying payment.
When is it paid?
A Christmas Bonus of 100% of your normal weekly payment will be paid during the week beginning 4 December 2023 to people getting a qualifying social welfare payment. For Domiciliary Care Allowance, which is paid monthly, the bonus is 100% of the weekly calculated rate.
Once-off double week in January 2024
A once-off double week for all weekly qualifying social welfare payments will be paid in the week beginning 29 January 2024. Payments that qualify for the Christmas Payment will qualify for the once-off double week.
Christmas and New Year payment dates
The date on which you receive your social welfare payments may change during the Christmas and New Year period. Payments due on 23, 24, 25 of December 2023 will now be paid on 22 of December 2023. 1 January 2024 payments will be on the 29 of December 2023.
