Child Benefit or as some people in Cork still refer to it – “Mee… Children’s Allowance boy”! This is a payment to parents of children under 18-years of age if the child is in full-time education or has a disability.

This is one of the few state benefits that isn’t means-tested (yet!). It’s paid each month & the amount you will receive will depend on the size of your family.

Child Benefit Monthly rate

One child                    €140

Two children               €280

Three children             €447

Four children               €624

Five children               €801

Six children                 €978

Seven or more             -I think you should now stop having kids for child benefit reasons!

Any baby born in an Irish hospital is automatically registered for Child Benefit. When you receive your new baby’s birth certificate you will automatically be given your payment.

If some how you haven’t received a letter regarding your child benefit then you should contact the Department of Social Protection on 1890 400 400 or visit www.welfare.ie.
