The General Election takes place every five years. When you are 18 you put your name on the register of electors. You can get an application form online to register to vote. You fill in that form and you bring it to the local Garda Station. You then get a voting card in the post and you bring it with you on the day. You must also bring I.D with you. This includes your drivers licence or a valid passport. When you arrive at the polling station you put a mark next to the person who you want to vote for. You can print off an application form online. All the candidates are then added up. A couple of weeks before polling day the election posters are put up around the country. When it is polling day the polling station is opened for the people to vote. The Candidates are then put into a box and counted after the people do the voting.
