The Disabled Person’s Parking Card is for drivers or passengers with disabilities. Card holders can park in disabled parking spaces. The card is for people whose disability affects their mobility and who currently hold a Primary Medical Certificate. Generally, the card is not issued to anyone under five.

The parking card scheme is administered by the Disabled Drivers Association. Apply in writing for an application form, stating your child’s disability, their age and how their disability affects their mobility. You have to get the form completed by the Gardaí and by your doctor unless you have a Primary Medical Certificate.

It costs €25 and applies to the person rather than the car. I encourage you to apply even if you think you may not use it often. For more information contact Disabled Drivers Association of Ireland Tel: (094) 936 4266/4054 or www.ddai.ie
